Weaver, Knitter, and Lover of all things fiber
As a lifelong fiber lover, Sami has traveled all over the world collecting fiber and transforming it into hand crafted art. Knitting was her first love and is still a mainstay in her day to day life. She came to weaving Ojos de Dios after meeting Jay Mohler in the mountains of Western North Carolina in August 2013. Jay worked to teach her about the traditions and techniques of weaving mandalas that he has spent his life exploring. She instantly fell in love with the techniques of weaving yarn and stick mandalas. Often found with her hand in the yarn bin at the many yarn shops around Asheville. She loves the feel of yarn pulling through her fingers and delicately placing each strand in its place. Her favorite thing is to watch the mandala grow, like oneself, into something complex and vibrant; each change in pattern or color altering the course of the larger piece. Weaving these Ojos de Dios is a meditative and exploratory practice and she always looks forward to her next adventure.
