The dowels are measured and cut and then marked every half inch. Then they are filed every inch to create grooves to hold the yarn in place.
Then each dowel is notched so they sit together in a cross without moving.
Then the weaving begins. We weave two dowels together to make a cross. This is a 4 sided mandala. To create an 8 sided mandala we add another cross and weave them together. For a 12 sided mandala we weave on another cross and so on.
